6 ways to know if LASIK eye surgery is right for you

Ever wonder if you’re a good candidate for LASIK?

LASIK or Lasik, commonly referred to as laser eye surgery or laser vision correction, is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and an actual cure for astigmatism, since it is in the cornea.

Well here is a checklist you can run through before you meet with your doctor:

1️⃣ Your prescription must be stable for at least 1-2 years. This is of course to ensure the best possible result.

2️⃣ You must be over the age of 18, ideally though 21 years of age is a safer bet. Since as you grow and go through puberty, hormonal changes can affect the eyes.

3️⃣ If your eyes are very dry you might not be the best candidate (if you think you have dry eyes check out our post on the different causes of dry eyes from Tuesday!)

4️⃣ Your cornea should be a certain thickness and generally healthy - meaning not dry or irregularly shaped. These are all things we check for in the office, most of us are not walking around knowing how thick our corneas are!

5️⃣ If you’ve had previous infections or trauma to the eye you might not quality unfortunately

6️⃣ Know your medical history since certain medical conditions can be a contradiction to LASIK.
